Arm candy AW2014

Obviously Diamond is a girl's best friend, but we think handbags come in a pretty close second. They are the cherry on the cake, they finish an outfit and it doesn't matter if you're having a 'fat day', a handbag will always fit. We've taken a look at the biggest trends for arm candy in AW2014, and chosen our favourites.

Here are our 4 picks:

Leopard print

Leopard print is a big clothing trend for AW2014 and we're really glad to see it's also making its way to accessories. We think every girl should embrace their wild side with some animal print, but if you're not quite brave enough to wear the print, then a leopard print bag is the perfect alternative. This one from British accessories brand Hemmingford Grey is simple and chic, and just like their other bags has no big logos or fussy detailing - key when you're choosing a bold print. This statement bag will add an on-trend edge to any outfit.

Satchels and duffle bags are taking over the high street and these are two styles you won't want to be seen without in the next couple of months. Walk into any clothing shop and you'll find an array of satchels and duffle bags in different shapes and sizes, colours and patterns. But if you don't fancy traipsing the shops looking for one, head to New Look where they've got you covered; their AW bag collection is pretty great this year and a lot cheaper than other high street chains. They've also designed matching purses for a few of the collection pieces.

Mini bags

If like us your arm is dropping off after an hour of lugging your giant bag around, you are going to love, or at least learn to love, one of the trends this AW - the mini bag. Designers have taken the beautiful shoppers and totes and shrunk them into stunning little handbags that you have to carry with your hand. You won't be able to overfill these little beauts no matter how hard you try - so give those shoulders and forearms a well-deserved rest, girls.

Burgundy

The statement colour of bags this season is a rich burgundy - think red wine or deep cherry. Burgundy is a fantastic all-round colour that you can match with so many other colours in your wardrobe. A lot of the bags on the high street have gold detailing which really adds to their expensive look. We love this Vivienne Westwood Beaufort bag in burgundy, but if you're looking for something in a lower price range, head to Accessorize - they have a whole range of bags in this colour ready for AW.
