Women driving some high performance cars
are more than 10 times as likely to have an accident than those driving some more everyday cars according to new figures from
women's car insurance specialist Diamond.
Diamond looked at the accident records of its 260,000 female
policyholders, and found that cars such as the Honda S2000, BMW M3, and Subaru Impreza Turbo were involved in accidents much
more frequently than cars such as the Ford Fiesta, Nissan Micra and Peugeot 106.
Commenting on these findings,
Diamond Managing Director, Sian Lewis, said, "This research does not mean that women are now becoming worse drivers, but
does show that some women driving high performance cars are having more frequent accidents than those driving more everyday
cars."
When looking at the extremes, according to Diamond's records, women drivers of Honda S2000s are
almost 14 times as likely to be involved in an accident than those driving a Ford Fiesta Ghia - this really is quite a shocking
statistic.
Sian continued, "Women driving high performance cars have become more commonplace recently; in
fact, in the last 5 years we have seen a 5 fold proportional increase in the amount of these cars that we have on cover. These
cars are great fun to drive, but the power that they possess must be respected as accidents can happen all too
easily."
