The term 'hairdresser's car' has long been linked with
sporty little
run-arounds, but is this really the case? Leading women's car insurer Diamond decided to find out
what hairdressers really drive and have created the definitive list of which cars are most popular amongst hairdressers.
Diamond looked at over 2,000 hairdressers and compared the cars they drove to those driven by non-hairdressers. The most
popular, and therefore ultimate 'hairdresser's car', is the Ford StreetKa, which is three times more likely to be driven by a
hairdresser than everyone else. The next most popular for hairdressers are the Fiat Cinquecento and standard Ford Ka, which are
both more than two and a half times more popular with hairdressers. Rounding out the top five are the Peugeot 106 and Volkswagen
Beetle.
Commenting on the findings, Diamond managing director, Sian Lewis said, "It's not surprising that
the StreetKa is so popular amongst hairdressers, as it's stylish, modern, and the folding roof allows them to show off their
latest cut!"
When looking at the cars that a hairdresser was less likely to drive than a
non-hairdresser, some surprising results emerged. The stereotypical 'hairdresser cars' of the Mazda MX-5, BMW Z3, Audi TT, and
Mercedes SLK are all more likely to be driven by non-hairdressers than hairdressers.
Sian Lewis added, "The
result for the MX-5 might surprise some, but it just goes to show that you can never stereotype."
Diamond compared itself to some of its competitors for a 27 year old female hairdresser living in Brighton driving some of
the most popular 'hairdresser's cars' and came up with the following quotes:
