Cash donation to local school

(30/11/2004)

A local school has benefited from a donation by a South Wales insurer.

Ysgol Hendre DeafBlind Centre received £300 from Swansea based insurer Diamond. The donation was used to pay for reflexology sessions for the six children with special needs who attend the school. Because of their multi-sensory impairment, reflexology is very beneficial to the children. Due to the cost of specialised equipment and treatment sessions, the school relies heavily on donations.

The money from Diamond comes from a fund set up by the company's chief executive, Henry Engelhardt. The fund provides financial support for staff that are involved with local organisations.

Stella White, an employee at Diamond has a son Elliot, 11, who has attended Ysgol Hendre since he was four years old. Stella is also an active member of Friends of DeafBlind Children South and West Wales, which was established in 1995 by parent and teachers to support the school.

Stella said, "The donation from Diamond means the school has been able to provide the pupils with extras that will benefit them in many ways. We are glad of their support."
