Expensive for Tomb Raiders, cheap for the rest of us

Being a heroine will cost you more on your insurance according to direct motor insurer Diamond.

The highly anticipated film, Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, based on the 3D video game with heroine Lara Croft opens across the UK this week. Lara drives a modified Jeep Wrangler Rubicon in the film and to celebrate the sequels release Jeep have issued a special edition Jeep Wrangler Sport TR2.

To insure 35-year-old archaeologist Lara, from London to drive her Jeep Wrangler on a comprehensive basis would cost £623.00. Naturally Lara's high-risk activities and modifications such as roll cage, bull bars and raised suspension, would raise the cost of her premium considerably. But those who are not quite so adventurous can benefit from cheaper car insurance.

Diamond also came up with quotes for two other "Laras" to drive the special edition Jeep Wrangler Sport TR2. For a 28-year-old bank manager called Lara, living in Kensington, the cost of fully comprehensive insurance could be £367.00 with £150.00 excess. Alternatively, a 32-year-old accountant named Lara, living in Ayr, could pay just £328.00 with £150.00 excess to insure the same vehicle comprehensively.

Sian Lewis, managing director at Diamond, said, "We thought it would be a bit of fun to see just how much it would cost for someone like Lara Croft to get car insurance. Obviously our underwriters would be concerned about Lara's high-risk activities, and this would affect her chances of getting insurance. But for those of us with less dangerous lifestyles, the Jeep Wrangler Sport could be a fun option and not too expensive to insure."
