Top Tips for Tiny Travellers

We all know that travelling with children can be hard work, so with this in mind, women's car insurance specialist Diamond has come up with 10 top tips to make sure car journeys with children are as hassle free as possible.

  • Have a pack of wet wipes handy as they are always welcome on hot days or after an in-car snack. A readily accessible change of clothes is also useful in case drinks get spilt or there are any unfortunate accidents!

  • Portable DVD players are an excellent way to keep kids happy and their favourite film is a sure way to take their mind off the journey.

  • If your children tend to fight in the car, if they are old enough, try putting one child in the front seat and one parent in the back seat. They can also change seats so they're not always sitting in the same spot.

  • Frequent stops are a must when travelling with children. A good rule of thumb is to take a 15-minute break for every 2 hours on the road. Pack a ball or frisbee for your children to play with when you stop.

  • To make their car ride as comfortable as possible, you might want to use car shades to keep the sun out of their eyes.

  • Plan to travel during the middle of the day to avoid traffic problems.

  • Pack plenty of healthy snacks and drinks for the journey.

  • To avoid travel sickness keep windows open a little to ventilate the car.

  • If you want them to fall asleep, make sure you pack pillows and blankets and their favourite soft toy.

  • Try games such as car spotting where the first person to spot a car of a certain colour, make or model is the winner.

Diamond Managing Director, Sian Lewis, said, "We want parents to enjoy travelling with their children, not dread it, and hopefully these tips will make car journeys more enjoyable for everyone."
