Women drivers' insurance claims cost over £300 less
than claims made by men.
Diamond, a direct insurer specialising in car insurance
for women has looked into the claims differences between the sexes and
found evidence that shows that on average, women have a better claims
record than men and cost insurance companies less.
Diamond looked into claims statistics from 1999 - 2001.The
results show that it's the seriousness of the accident that is very different
between the sexes. On average, insurance companies have to pay out more
for a claim from a male driver than one from a female driver. Diamond
reviewed claims costs during this time and found the average cost for
a claim made by male drivers is £2,156 and for women, £1,790.
The statistics show that women are 23% more likely to hit
a stationary car than men are. Women are also almost twice as likely to
have a collision in a car park compared to male drivers. Claims records
also show that women are 15% more likely than men to reverse into another
vehicle.
However, male drivers are 30% more likely to hit an animal
than female drivers. Men are 27% more likely to hit a barrier or wall
and 16% more likely than women to hit a tree. Men on average, have more
head on collisions or accidents where they hit a pedestrian on a pavement.
Sian Lewis, managing director at Diamond said, "Our
research shows that women have a different pattern of driving to men.
Women drive slower and less aggressively than men, which is why they tend
to have minor accidents that cost less. Diamond is happy to help prove
that the myths surrounding women drivers are just that."
