Glamorous TV and radio presenter Katy Hill burst onto
our screens as the 23rd Blue Peter presenter. Her presenting skills were
much in demand and she went on to front Live and Kicking, Top of the Pops
and a weekend breakfast show with Capitol FM.
Katy met Trey Farley her co-presenter whilst working on Live and Kicking. They married three years ago in beautiful Tuscany and now have a one year old daughter, Kaya. Katy's career has now taken another direction as both Trey and her have jetted over the pond to pursue their careers in Los Angles, USA.
Katy has made time for an exclusive girly chat with the Best Friends Club. We have a natter about her life, her favourite beauty products and fabulous holidays.
What are you up to at the moment?
We've just moved to Los Angeles,
USA. We're going to be living between here and the UK for a while, so
we've been busy setting up home and sorting out life. Moving countries
is quite a big deal, especially with a one-year-old in tow. I'm busy
meeting up with agents over here and generally getting life set up for
the next couple of years. The plan is for both of us to work both here
and in the UK, Trey as an actor and myself as a presenter.
Who, or what, is the greatest love of your life?
My family without a doubt. Life means nothing
if you're not surrounded by the people you love.
You did very well on the
reality show The Games. How important is being healthy?
I go to the gym
five mornings a week and do a mixture of cardio and weights. I
go wakeboarding most weekends here in LA - and generally eat pretty healthily. I
try to buy organic produce. To be honest, over here organic produce
is fantastic and nowhere near as expensive as back home. And because
it doesn't have to travel very far since so much is grown here, the quality
is amazing. I'd love the organic option to be better in the UK. Generally,
it's over on price, and under on quality.
What do you think about complementary
therapies?
Massage is my biggest luxury. It's weird that in the UK we see massage
as a luxury, yet in many European countries they see it as a necessary
part of life. I like their sentiment and think massage is way overpriced
at home. We went to Koh Samui, Thailand on our honeymoon and full
body massages cost £4 a time - consequently we had one every day.
If massage was cheaper back
home, I'd have one every day - I love them. And
I find it's a great way to unwind. If I won the lottery, employing
a masseur would be my first move. They could spend an hour a day massaging
my feet alone.
What’s your beauty routine?
There's a range of skincare
by a cosmetic company called Nora Bode which is fabulous. They also do an amazing facial called Oxyjet, which
I have regularly when I'm home at Janet Ginnings salon in Mayfair. It's
the best facial ever. They pump pure oxygen into your skin, through a variety
of serums and collagen and you leave feeling radiant. Looking radiant is
pretty unusual for facials - usually you feel radiant and look shocking.
I also love Dermalogica products. My skin
is pretty sensitive and I have to be careful not to use anything that's
perfumed. The Dermalogica range is perfect and the added bonus is that
the grey and white packaging looks great in your bathroom. I love
their Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque, if you want a really intense
moisture experience, cover your face with it and leave it on over night. Their
Daily Microfoliant is perfect for sensitive skin too, and their moisturisers
are to die for.
What your favourite feature?
Well, it's hard to judge
yourself but people tell me I have good teeth, and as it's resulted in
a TV campaign as the face of Arm & Hammer Enamel
Care Toothpaste, I suppose I should believe them. I like that my
teeth are natural. There are too many people with veneers and fake
smiles these days, and I think it ruins a persons face and takes the personality
out of it. Especially out here in LA - everyone seems to have the
same smile. It looks ridiculous.
Do you have a favourite holiday destination?
The Hilton Rangali Resort
- The Maldives. I've been to the
Maldives about five times now and the islands are amazing. It’s absolute
picture-book perfection.
Trey and I went to Rangali
for our first holiday together and had the best time ever. It's always going to be a special place for us. We
had the most amazing villa out on stilts over the water. It was called
the Sunset Villa and it had a glass floor, it's own hot tub and swimming
pool, plasma screens in every room, a huge bathroom with a round bath -
and a round bed that rotated so you could see the sunrise AND the sunset
from it.
It was the most incredible
place I've ever been. Pure luxury. We
even had our own butler, (but we hardly used his services, as we felt awkward. He
virtually had two weeks off).
Where is your favourite place
in the UK?
Probably Sherbourne in Dorset. It's such a lovely town
and has so many family memories. My mother grew up there and my grandmother
owned The Eastbury Hotel and my father lived in nearby Martock. They
got married in Sherbourne Abbey. And strangely Trey's father grew
up in Sherbourne too, quite a coincidence. Even stranger is
that he used to take his girlfriends for dinner at my Grandmothers hotel.
With hotels in the family do you have a favourite hotel or spa,
in the UK?
Hotel Du Vin, Henley on Thames. It's such
a great little hotel. The staff are lovely, there's a great bar and the
food and wine are excellent. And
the rooms are all so comfy with huge beds and not a hint of chintz in sight. We've
been there a few times now and each time has been such a great break. Last
time we had a room overlooking the river with an outdoor bath. The
regatta was on so we just sat in the bath with champagne and watched all
the boats going by.
What would be your ultimate holiday?
North Island in the Seychelles. It looks like my idea of paradise.
And I'd love to take over Necker Island with a group of friends. I
went on the website the other day and noticed they have a trampoline out
in the sea. How great would that be? Richard Branson clearly
leaves nothing to chance. One day… in my dreams!
