Utility wear
The utility trend is a welcome alternative in a season full of feminine, frothy themes. Tailored safari chic is going to be a big look for Spring 2008. Versace showed tailored shorts teamed with soft, tailored utility tops.
Military pockets, short sleeves and a belted waist is the way to wear your khaki safari jacket.
At Yves Saint Laurent the utility trend was very minima l and streamlined, giving a more feminine twist to androgynous work wear. Paul Smith Women took it one step further with parkas in dusky pink.
How to make it work:
If ultra feminine florals and ruffles are not your thing this could be the spring trend for you. A safari jacket and tailored shorts teamed with a smart, but simple top will give you an outfit that will translate easily from the office to the evening.
If you like a bargain (and who doesn’t?) keep your eyes peeled in TK Maxx for the Tommy Hilfiger khaki utility dress. Check H&M for cute, bold-coloured shorts. Mix sequins, silk, jewellery and oversize bags for a tough, yet feminine feel.
The beauty of this trend is that you can mix and match key pieces to suit you, whatever your body type or colouring. |
