Prints
Everything from tie-dye to statement stars to pretty rosebuds went down the catwalk for this season. Diane Von Furstenberg’s maxi dress was bang on trend with bold splashes of hot pink and orange, while the Spice Girls favourite designer Roberto Cavalli’s prints enhanced the seventies feel of his Spring 2008 show.
And yes, you did read correctly – tie-dye is back! Both tie-dye and batik were big on the catwalk. Using dip dying techniques tie-dye has lost its grungy image.
Marios Schwab’s exquisite dresses gave tie-dye a 21st century twist, while Valentino’s dots and Yves Saint Laurent’s star patterns will be everywhere on the high street in spring.
How to make it work:
H&M have teamed up with the hot Finnish textile and clothing brand Marimekko, loved since the fifties for its bold, graphic prints in vibrant colours. Their seventies-inspired range includes skirts and tunics in bold, on-trend prints.
There is a shade of colour to suit everybody, the trick is getting it right. Experiment with different colours and patterns to find the best one for you. Remember a head to toe ensemble may look great on the catwalk – but rarely translates well. |
